Don’t give up! Some pets have been reunited with their families after a year or longer when their families continued efforts to find them.

In your flyers and ads, offer a reward, if possible.

If permitted, post your flyers at businesses in your area.

You can also visit the Missing Pet Partnership site for additional tips and strategies. Check those sites continuously for found pets. Post your lost pet online at, Craigslist and (or on the Nextdoor app), and on social media sites.

If your pet is microchipped, contact the microchip company and have them put a “lost or stolen” alert on the pet’s microchip so that if it is scanned by a shelter or veterinarian, they will know that a concerned owner is looking for that pet.

File a lost pet report and ask where your animal will be taken if it’s picked up by one of these agencies.

Contact your local animal control agency, animal shelters and police stations.

If no match is found at that time, the cat will be evaluated and processed for adoption. When entering our care, our Admissions team will check for a microchip, & complete an initial search of our lost reports in an effort to reunite cats with their owners. Please note: Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh does not hold cats for a stray hold period. Quick action and personal involvement are key components in the recovery of recovering your lost pet.
